Karen M. Kaphingst, MPH Deputy Director
Karen M. Kaphingst is deputy director of the national program office for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Healthy Eating Research program, which supports research on environmental and policy strategies to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity. She is based in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Prior to coming to the University of Minnesota, she was at the Center for Community-Based Research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. While there, she worked as program coordinator for studies in a variety of content areas, including healthy weight, tobacco use, prostate cancer, and clinical trial recruitment. Other prior research experience includes working at Education Development Center in Boston on a national study of high-risk alcohol use among college students. Ms. Kaphingst received a BA in Sociology from the University of St. Thomas and a MPH from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
